Brantford – Classrooms aren’t just environments where students learn intellectually. They should be environments where students learn to develop positive peer relationships, understand their strengths and generally thrive. Wilfrid Laurier University offers a certificate program to help educators create positive learning environments, and its first class has just graduated.
The first cohort of the Positive Education Certificate, offered by Laurier’s Centre for Public Safety and Well-Being, started online studies in January 2018. Four modules and 112 hours later, plus time for online discussion and assignments, seven professionals from across Canada and around the globe have earned their certificates in a program based on positive psychology, which has been described as “the science of happiness.”
Positive education applies positive psychology to learning environments, and the certificate program is designed for people whose careers or career aspirations are related to education. The first cohort includes educators, a police training officer, a human resources consultant and people seeking to change careers.
“We designed the program to be applicable to a wide range of professions that touch the education field, and our first cohort was a wonderful mix of backgrounds,” said Holly Cox, manager of the Centre for Public Safety and Well-Being. “We’re thrilled that the feedback from our first cohort shows the program has exceeded our expectations – graduates saw immediate results in their classrooms and in the culture of their organizations.”
“I am a teacher and was so inspired and motivated to integrate aspects of positive psychology and positive education into my program,” said Kristie King, an Ontario teacher who participated in the certificate program. “It is essential for our students to be introduced and explicitly taught positive psychology concepts to help them to become happier, more content, more emotionally intelligent human beings. These skills that they will gain will help them to build healthier relationships, perseverance, resilience, positive emotion, and more.”
The next cohort of the Positive Education Certificate will begin in September. For more information, see บาคาร่า เทคนิคProgram Dates and Fees.
